same kinda thing as the estate thread i started but this time around i`m askin who has a 1.8 but adding, what model(sri, sxi, etc)
    is a vvt or not
and why did you buy a 1.8, ie could only afford, most reliable engine, etc
mines a non vvt 1.8 sri and i didn`t want a diesel as i didn`t want the trouble i had before with my 1.9 cdti 150 astra, and after a lot of searching the 1.8 was the more reliable engine

    Default 1.8 ?

I have a 1.8 VVT SRI and love it. I was looking for this or a 1.9cdti but they were all silly money and milage. My 1.8 was 3 yrs old with 20k on the clock when i had her, but now has 68k with only the thermostat failing up to now ! Yes there are bigger more powerfull engines out there but i am more than happy with mine.

I have a 1.8vvt sri and I picked the car on price for a 18 month old car it ticked the boxes and looked smart. I found the way it picks up in low revs reminded me of my old mgzt 190. There appears a lot to be made of performance but anything that gets to 60mph in around 10 seconds is alright in my book. The real problem is if you attempt to rally the car is the sheer size/weight - there is no overtaking without planning due to the lack of torque.

I've got a 1.8 vvt Exclusiv, I think the performance is very good for the size of car - on the motorway no issues, and 45+mpg at 70mph, around 35mpg round the doors. Don't drive it like a diesel and you'll be fine.

1.8 z18xe. Bought it to replace my 1996 Honda Accord. Dunno why I wanted a Vectra c, just liked the look of them. TBH I did absolutely no research at all. Knew I didn't want a Diesel as that would require around £1500-2K extra for the same year, and doing around 8k a year the extra expense didnt warrant one. Why the 1.8? Well they were plentiful, cheap and at my local car auction(SCA) there was always plenty low mileage trade in's from big named dealers going through. I bought mine 2 years ago almost to the day. 2004, 42k, 2 owners from new, and for only £1800. TBH I always hear people say the 1.8 is slow, mines not. Ok it lacks the torque of a CDTi, but if you take it to 5k in each gear its definitely no slouch, but as Bright Spark say overtaking does require a bit of planning because of the lack of torque.

Yup, proud owner of the Z18XER.
Love it... mainly because it's not a DERV.
Purrs and Roars, easy to work on, good economy... nice engine, in a very good car.
