    Default Handbrake problem

Sometimes the handbrake does to work until I release and pump the foot brake and re-apply. I have not changes the pad recently. Do you think it is the self adjusting mechanism in the calliper going wrong or bad pads? Thanks

The car went back for the handbrake recall a few years ago. I have done some more investigation and it looks like the self adjusting mechanism is bust. When the problem occurs the ns wheel dose not lock at all. I think I will investigate the the ns calliper. It looks like the piston in the calliper is retracing over time and pumping the foot brake pushes it out again with a restoration of the handbrake.

What are your pads like - if near end of their lives, might be worth replacing them - that will put the piston and the adjustment settings in different positions and could help. Alternatively replace caliper

Sounds like the auto adjustment inside the caliper.
