Default Car fails its MoT again

I have my own car MoT every six months (always have, due to the mileage I do and for personal peace of mind)

The first appointment was early June and it failed on Power Steering and emissions (warning light on)
The dealership had another go with the Power Steering (no cost as they repaired it earlier this year)
Put it through MoT again, and it has failed on the same point on retest (but passed on emissions as the warning light was off)

I've been advised the entire steering system will have to come out of the car to find out what the issue is
The labour alone is four hours

So I phoned up the local car auction, but they have advised they cannot accept the car as it is overdue a service and failed MoT
The last auction I went to there was all kinds of rubbish going throough, or are they just being fussy?

It's the auctions prerogative as to what cars they accept, but they're choosing to be fussy. There are plenty of auctions that will take cars with no service history; if none took those cars they'd have little to sell.

Shame we don't have the auction up here any more, they would take a rusty wheelbarrow!

Why did you tell them it failed? If you MOT your car every 6 months that means it would still have 6 months MOT on it. Sorry but 99% of cars going through car auctions are over due a service, mot, tax, tyres required, stuff it just trade it in.

They asked for all details about the vehicle and reason for submitting it to auction
    Questions :
Registration number, service history, MoT date, RFL date, general condition, warning lights, mileage
They advised for the mileage the car has it would have to be sold without warranty, which was obvious

I currently don't have any plans to purchase a new car, plan to use the company car for the next year (until it needs replaced)

When you submit a car to MoT the previous record becomes nul and void now
Even though the current MoT expires on 31 November 2012, the failure notice now applies

So if it fails an MOT and the previous MOT is null and void once you drive it home you cant drive it on a road until retuning it to the MOT station for a retest?

Yes that is correct, it's a gamble you take when shortening the MoT interval, but it makes sure your car is roadworthy more often

How many miles do you do a year exactly?
