Default Honda Accord 2.2 Cdti - any good?

Mate of mine is looking at a Honda Accord 2.2 iCdti Sport (2005 reg) with about 90,000 miles on it.

Looks in really good nick with all the history but does anyone have any experience (good or bad!) to share with these?

I've only had one jap car (2004 toyota avensis) and it was far from the model of reliability I was expecting. It had more faults than any car I've owned!

I sometimes drive a 58 plate 2.2 iCDTI as a company vehicle. Nice interior if a bit dull. Style wise It's a good looking car........the engine however is SHOCKING!! So lethargic and slow it seriously ruined a half decent car.

Really? I suprised at that - I thought the 2.2 diesel was supposed to be a cracker. He hasn't driven it yet so not in a position to comment but I read it was smooth and pokey enough.

I quite like the look of the Accords myself, they're just quite a bit more expensive than a Vectra.

I was as surprised as you! I also drive an Insignia 160 CDTI auto as a company vehicle. It absolutely leaves the Accord standing! The interior is better also. I think the Honda tries to be too hi-tech hence why the interior feels a bit dull. Although the Accord is styled better and looks more purposeful.

Well he went to have a look and it - and guess what - he said it felt really flat, compared to his current motor (Focus 1.8 petrol) and that uphill at 60mph in 5th it felt like it was struggling.

Really surprised, I drove my Dads 2007 Civic with the same engine and it felt really quick. Must be a heavier car/different gearing etc in the Accord.

Google honda 2.2 Clutch and then run away. Or budget 1500 Quid for a aftermarket one. I had a 2.2 Civic. I will never own another honda. I do know someone with a 220bhp 2.2 civic from just a map and fmic though.

Isn't that the case with all diesel clutchs with DMFs these days though. Even on here people are spending £700 plus on their clutchs!

I remember replacing the clutch on my 1993 Cavalier - Sachs clutch installed in around an hour for less than £100 including labour. Happy days

They tend to last more then 1100 miles though. Yes I do know on one that went in 1100 miles. Mine went at less then 20k. And I know of plenty that did likewise.
