Thumbs up Ecoflex servicing and 2 years of ownership

Well 2 days short of 2 years of ownership, and 3 days short of 2 years since the first service I performed on it, and just over 15k, the spanner and oil can finally pinged up on the dash this morning. Sorry I know its meant to help save money, but thats just wrong IMO. Ok so i've been a tad over zealous when it comes to servicing, its had 5 oil and filter changes in those 2 years(2nd one was only 1.5K after the first) but I do believe that spending £25 or less(cheapest was £13 when Asda had magnatec on offer at £10), is the best way to lengthen the life of any engine. The z18xe can be prone to piston rings so fresh oil makes sense to help prolong their life.
Whats gone wrong? Well other than normal servicing? A thermostat, £10, brake pads all around, £45, and the timing belt had reached its 6 years mark so was changed (£50 + a bottle of OVD). Oh and the Heat shield for the centre section fell off, but thats it. TBH not bad for a car that I bought at auction and only paid £1800 for. I am easily returning 41mpg, and everything still works, and many many many thing have been added, and all because the Cigar Lighter didnt work, lol. Its also passed 3 MOT's with flying colours too. I remember the EML light coming on after only 1 day and thinking WTF have I done, its still on to this day(it clears every now and again), lol, i'll get that second lambda sensor changed eventually. Other than that its been totally reliable.
Things still to do? Chrome window strips, standard twin exhuast system(hidden pipes), would love Folding mirrors and tbh thats it.

Thanks again folks, this forum has emptied my wallet and raped my credit card, but I've made loads of new friends and learned more than my brain can remember.

    Ewan.

Agreed with all the above. Even if nothing else is done on the car, regular oil and filter changes equal a healthy engine.
