Default Head Gaskets and Timing Belt must be made of gold

    Hi,
I finally bit the bullet and got the Vectra checked at Vauxhall Peterborough. Constant water loss getting worse.
My worse fear, they said definitely head gasket but dont know which one. There is no written quote but told worse case senario 4 GRAND. Yes that is correct £4000.
Will actually be doing the job myself and sure labour time is 13 hours. They said labour will be £1250 + vat.
Looking to buy head gasket kits and cam belt kit.
Can anyone who has had to buy these give me realistic idea of cost of each, and the best place to actually buy them.
I was actually expecting £250 - £300 for all the parts, am i wrong ????????
    Thanks for anything !!!!!!!!

Give this guy a shout http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/member.php?20318-Critch he might help you With the engine apart, don't forget to check the liners...if they sank more than 0.4mm scrap the car (or get a "new" engine)...

Doesn't need water pump its driven from internal gears so will be fine.

Unless you want another 6 hours of work.

Best place for me was genuine head gasket and stretch bolts from vxl, I used thickest head gasket an sent heads to be pressure tested and skimmed.

The gaskets come in 3 thicknesses indicated by number of notches on side of gasket.

Autovaux provides my timing belt coolant etc cheaper than anywhere else.

I think it cost me in the region of 850£ for parts however I completed full service including gearbox oil needed rear upper control arms rear caliper and a front spring.

    as mentioned check the liners.
I didn't have a dti gauge so used a small flat blade an gently slid it across to see if any difference not very accurate but 30000 miles on an going great I'm happy enough.

You may also want to check valve clearances while your stripped that far as they use bucket an shims.

I didn't bother as apart from coolant loss car ran ok.

Lots of pics in the sticky thread from when I did mine so may help you out.
