this is from my youngest daughters swimming instructers car and she called me saying the exhaust was louder then normal, got it in the air to have a look and found that staring me in the face..

its the pre-cat on a bmw mini cooper S R56, complete weld failure and cant be welded back due to heatshield in way and possisition of it over subframe, this means new full 1 piece section consisting of, manifold, flexi, pre-cat and full cat inc 2 x lambda sensor point's....

bmw price £1051.97 supply only, extra £112.98 to fit

spoke to mini head office to question the weld failure and there were never any recallls on the exhaust system on the cooper S only water pump's, was then told that the price was reasonable for an exchange job but if i got an engineers report on it breaking they may do something about it....

i managed to get a pattern part TYPE APPROVED with 3 yr warranty for £275.99 inc vat without the pre-cat and going to fit it tomoz, then going to get an indipendant check on the old system and see what BMW have to say about the weld failing..

    pic of the new one....

    BMW's RESPONSE....................

yeah the weld has broken, your right there, is it a fault ?? no we have never had anything like this before AND as you have replaced the part already and the car wasn't brought from an authorised BMW mini dealer OR HAVE FULL BMW MINI SERVICE HISTORY even if it were a fault we cant do anything now because you could have damaged it removing it...

    MY RESPONSE...

damage it removing it, you have just agreed the weld failed and fair enough it's the first you have heard of this but at least give the girl something, even if its just an INVESTIGATION for peace of minds sake for her...

    THERE RESPONSE...

the thing is sir we needed to see the fault on the car beforehand so we could assertain if the part was failing, along with the other criterea we require for a warranty claim to be made against this so called faulty item, as the car wasn't purchased from a bmw mini approved dealer we ca......(cut him short here)

MY RESPONSE IN A QUITE LOUD VOICE FOLLOWED BY WALKING OUT FUMING...

when i asked yesterday if someone could look at it i was given a phone number for mini HQ, they told me no never heard of it breaking before sorry, the price is reasonable for a dealer, if you want to get it checked feel free to do so....

you wanted £1200 odd to replace it, i have done the job for less than £400 with a type approved part, all i want is a little help for the girl but it seems you are not tinterested atall, you are a bunch of up your own arse tosspigs who think they are better than everyone else because of a god damn badge
