Default cdti blue smoke/dmf rattle solved!

wow!! I'm over the moon , My cdti 150 has had this git of problem for aaaaaages, uneven running,chugging/blue smoke on start up, along with it making my dmf sound really kn**kered & embarrassingly noisy, So i've been trying everything & i mean everything, most will know there's no fault code's stored but you cant put a finger on it, fuel cleaner, different garages,double-double checking glow plugs, removing EVERY electrical connector in sight & spraying with elec contact spray, cleaning egr, boost sensor, throttle body (including any known 'how 2' for these components, tapping ,banging, swearing, cursing & even threatening it ''that's it your going you heap of ****'', None of these even came close to making a difference until!, Last Saturday morning i started it & for f**k sake not something else! (car/spanner light) on, So key off/on & i was away, When on return opcom shows p0190 rail pressure range/performance (07) not present, Well that was it this sounded as though it could be expensive, I couldn't find anything so left it, Same again Sunday & Monday all were on first start up of the day/night, After some brain swelling thoughts i removed the right hand common rail sensor (pic included), leaving the engine to cool or do after some time standing with plenty of rags to catch diesel i used a 27mm ring spanner there was no pressure in the rail as sutch when removing the sensor (looks just like a big nut/bung with a small hole in the end when removed, I put this in an old plastic jug & poured a couple of inches of brake cleaner in & swilled it around & generally gave it a clean, Put it back in (there's no seals) & after a couple of 15 sec cranks she fired up, ( no fault light came up but it did store a code which i cleared after, probably due to low pressure) & Hey presto!! no chugging, no blue smoke & i presume the slight chugging must have been upsetting balance cos my dmf don't rattle any more on tick-over!!! at all, It did before all the time whether hot or cold RESULT!!!!!!!!. , Its been the second day with two 24hr overnight stands & ive had no codes pop up on start up & none of my other symptoms.(sensor is to the left of its plug arrowed here).

I hope that's the last of it!, Ive given it its biggest thrashng today since ive had it, we'll see after its stood again at work tonight but its had the blue smoke/chugging for about 12 months along with uneven/balance on tick-over even when hot or cold, To be honest i had put the blue smoke down to having a deposit of oil on 1&2 glow plug shafts but maybe not.

Believe it or not wizard, glad there were no nasty bills. Always good to read a cheap wee fix like this works.

may give mine a clean too! Is your fuel rail got a plug either end of it or just the one?

Wonder if this is one of those mods which need done now? You may actually be on to something possibly. Have a few not complained about the same symtoms as you?

You & I have noticed the same, I think there has been quite a few complaining of blue smoke/chugging on start up with rough idle, Funny thing is id never have found it if the code wasn't thrown up.
