Thumbs down What is happening at today's dealers?

Called our local Vauxhall dealer today for price and availability on front mudflaps for the wives Astra H model. The quote wasn't too bad, so i said, great i will come down and get them, oh, says the parts guy, we don't carry those in stock anymore, as it is not a current model! Damn! i said, the car only went out of production two years ago!!!!

Even the parts guy said he can't understand current stocking policies and they used to carry way more stock than they do today, but now they only stock for current models??? Must be a sign of the times.

You order stuff when it's needed - it's costing money when it's sat on the shelf...

That's all well and good Penfold, but in days gone by it was about availabilty and service, like i said, i guess it's just a sign of the times.

Most stuff not on the shelve is available direct from VX next day, as penfold say if its on the shelve its only costing them money. Have a look through car parts conexxions and see just what excess stock dealers are trying to shift, and imagine the amount of thousands of pounds of stuff they have that they didnt need.

I've found most items I wanted from the shelf at the dealer,.. I think only the water pump and VXR grilles had to be ordered, all servicable parts incl cam belt kit was stocked.

My local Vx dealer only ever has 2 spark plugs in stock for the Z20NET. Each time I try and buy a set, they say they'll have to order the other 2 in, and then they scratch their heads and say "Why have we only got 2 spark plugs...what good are they?" Then it's the same thing next time, and the next....

I agree to some extent that they cant just have every item sat on a shelf costing money, but I went in today to price up the 2 drive belt idlers. Price wasnt bad, but had to wait 2 days for stock. As for a smoked 3rd brake light, they wanted £65 for it! and 3 weeks delivery. I went to my second workplace and ordered both the idlers in for tomorrow. Its just daft! Theyre losing a lot of custom!

To be honest you wonder why we need the dealers for parts. We should be able to go direct to VX and have the parts delivered, cut out the middle man
