    Default What's the difference .....

Hi all I will be getting the quotes of the guy I reversed into tonight I don't know what to expect anyhow if the worst comes to the worst it will have to go through insurance I have looked at my policy and what's the difference between voluntary excess and compulsory just my voluntary is £250 and my compulsory is £475

It's just a dent about half a inch long so I'm holing it's reparable and under £200

    Thanks all

Basically, you pay both of them up to the amount of the claim. Compulsory excess is what the insurance require you to pay in the event of a claim, and the voluntary is the amount you agree you add to that in order to reduce the annual premium. If you cost of the claim was over £725 quid, the insurance would pay the rest of it.

Given the high price of your policy excess, I would try and settle cash in hand. Remember, you're making a claim against your policy for the repair of someone else's car. It will put your premium up, regardless of having protected no claims bonus.

Ask the third party to get a cash quote and an insurance quote for the repair. Generally the cash quote will be cheaper.

also can some one tell me what the time scales are for reporting a bump is it within 30 days??

If he goes through insurance, which is his right, then yes - you'll be paying 725 quid and the insurance will pay the rest of it. As for his MOT, as long as its not driven after it runs out its not an issue, and can be legally driven to go to the MOT station.

MOT don't come into it , it was an accident nothing to
    Do
    With his
    Impending mot

If you hit his rear quarter how I'd that going to give him an intermittent air bag light , he's trying it on with you
Tell him to sod off about the air bag light and . You want 3 quotes from 3 different garages and if not you'll take it through insurance

Also get pictures of his cars damage just in case

Someone correct me, but I though you only pay your excess if you claim on your car?

You will be required to pay the third parties excess, not your own - unless you make a claim for the repair of your car too.
