    Cool What's in the box...?

As per the thread title, what exactly is in the box...?

Ok, so it's not much of a challenge really...

I'd decided a few months ago that it was time to start living my life a bit, and do something I always said I'd never do, but secretly is something I think everyone (especially on here) would really love to.

I ORDERED A BRAND NEW CAR.

Now I know what you're thinking: "oh my god that's a waste of money, it'll lose half it's value in the first year..." and other such stuff in the along the same vein. And you know what? You're right - it WILL lose value, but oh well. Vauxhall have got so many offers on at the moment that it seemed almost rude not to take advantage of them.

Armed Forces Discount, 0% finance with no deposit and a 100,000 mile lifetime warranty had me sold, so I just needed to decide what I was going to get within my budget. To help me out, I took a trip to Marshalls of Leicester and through Maverick got in touch with their sales team. Originally I'd been looking at the Astra Estate as I'd put the Insignia as too far out of reach for the spec I'd want, but in the end I relented, and decided that if I was going to do this I might as well do it properly. If you're driving something for at least 5 years, you want it to be the car you want...

So what I ordered was this:

Vauxhall Insignia Elite 2.0 CDTi Elite Nav Sports Tourer

What do you get with this then? Well, as far as the spec sheet goes, pretty much everything as standard:

Full colour SD card Navigation system
    USB and Aux in connections
    TPMS
    Folding wing mirrors
    Power tailgate
    Full AFL with LED DRL's

...and probably lots of other stuff when you look through the list. What was left on the options for me to tick then? A few things, as it happens...

Flexride: changes damper settings for sport, normal or tour settings. Also changes dash lights to red when in sport (which has to be worth £800 of anyone's money...)
    Bluetooth: speaks for itself...
Full size spare wheel : common sense...
Rear 230V power socket: 70 squid so why not...
Ergonomic Sports Seats: basically full SRi heated electric memory leather seats.

A few things I'd have loved but are just ridiculous:

The new 2.0 BiTurbo engine. Same power as my old Vectra and with great tuning potential apparently, but an extra 5 GRAND for 35bhp? Not a chance...
Front camera system: £750 quid to read road signs. Hmmm...
Adaptive cruise control: needs front camera system...
20" Twin Spoke alloys: gorgeous, but tyre costs put me off. Maybe a set just for shows and meets...

I'm sure there's some other stuff too but I can't remember at the moment...

There really isn't much engine choice in the Elite Nav Sport Tourer range. It was either the new 1.4 Turbo (christ no, the old 1.8 was dire enough) the 2.8 Turbo Auto (god yes, but fuel would cripple me...) and the 2.0 deisel in various forms. I've lost a bit of power going to the 160 but such is life.

Ok, a few pictures. I collected it from the dealership yesterday with 7 miles on the clock, and drove home 100 miles getting just under 50mpg.

    Mmmm - new car smell...

    Sports leather seats...

An interesting feature of the new Navi 600 - picture playback. You can upload and store from a USB stick...

Dual zone Climate Control and the Flexride system on the top left buttons. Traction control switch works too...

Power tailgate switch. This is the best invention ever. Fact. I haven't had the balls to see if it works at 70mph yet...

USB, Aux, and SD card input for the Nav. One of two 12V sockets and the cup holder, which I have the dealership investigating as to whether I can get the phone baseplate installed as it was deleted as a standard fit in cost cutting a few years ago...

230V rear power outlet. I don't know why, it was just a box and for 70 quid it seemed rude not to tick it...

Cleanest engine bay I've over owned. Thanks for bringing back the gas strut too VX....

Familiar, but somehow different. Couldn't see a swirl bar either...

So there we have it. My wheels for the next 5 years at least, and then possibly till the warranty runs out. It will be staying mostly standard due to the warranty and my lack of enjoyment getting insurance on modified cars. The twin exhaust is the one thing I'm thinking of though, along with a retrim from CCS when my bank manager recovers...

For those of you in a similar disgusted position, the wooden dash trims will be replaced with the piano black from the SRi in the coming weeks. I had hoped to have them done before I picked the car up, but there were a few communication issues when the salesman left the dealership halfway through the car's build and didn't pass on a few things to his replacement...

Many thanks to Rory Morris and Kris Parmar from Marshalls of Leicester, and Maverick for putting me in touch with them. One small thing though guys. Car mats aren't part of the car's build spec? Seriously...??

I know the Insignia isn't to everyone's taste, and feel free to leave any comments as long as they're not nasty for the sake of it...

Nice one Martin, nothing quite like the feeling of driving off the forecourt with a brand new car. Been there, done that with this one (although will never do it again because of the depreciation but well worth doing once in your life)

Never had the balls to try the tailgate button on mine whilst moving more than about 2mph either, although I suspect it won't let you do it

Vey nice mate, Not sure its as nice on the eye as your Signum that you sold, but thats just my opinion. I do like the options that you've ticked. The "lifetime" warranty is also a good bonus.

Hope it lives unto expectations. Enjoy.
