Default Vectra CDTi 150 - Alternator is ******ed!

Well it just had to happen!

The battery light kept coming on after about 5 mins of driving, did a bit of research and it turns out it was likely to be alternator... Anyway, it was confirmed tonight when driving home when the power steering went and then suddenly power went!

Anyway, my question is... can anyone recommend an (affordable) alternator for a 2006 SRi CDTi 150? Are they easy enough to fit? Is it worth getting a recon or should I just get a new one?

New ones are a fortune, try your local motor factors for and exchange unit price. They can be done on the drive, all from the top of the engine bay, but are fiddly to get out once it's unbolted, it can be done with patience, took me about two hours start to finish on my 120 cdti.

Easy - well not easy I would say - but very much doable in an hour. Its just fiddley.. Done a good few now.

I normally charge people £200 for a new Denso unit from the shop supplied and fitted for a guide price if it helps.

I changed mine a few weeks ago. Got the 120amp one for £150. Fitted myself! Was fairly easy to be honest!

Bit if wriggling to get the units in and out, but they do go in and out OK.

I'd give it a go mate! If i can do it...anyone can! Just follow the How2 here....

    Works a treat!
