because the standard of driving in the uk is appalling; drivers change lanes without looking, talking on a mobile phone or anything but concentrating on their driving... incompetent motorists literally everywhere.

Think about what would have happened if the idiot had had a blow out at that speed. Would have spread across the whole motorway and wiped an innocent family out like yours!?

If you have a blow out at that speed either your tyres are crap, the traffic wombles don't do their job properly of signaling there's something on the road that could cause a blow out...or your car has a snapped spring. If it was THAT dangerous, no one in Germany would drive 110 in traffic.

I totally agree with this. I had this debate with someone else, the standard of peoples driving in the UK would not allow for this. People forget about road conditions, lack of talent, lack of suitable car etc, they'd think(in fact most already do) that its perfectly acceptable to do those sorts of speeds in all weathers regardless. Same as the debate about raising the limit to 80mph, a high percentage of people already do 80mph or more on our motorways anyway, so that would just mean they'd drive at 90 or above.

Ive lived in Germany and the standard of driving and overall awarness of road safety is far better than in the UK. Also the auto-bhans (motorways) do have speed limits even more so at night due to noise restrictions. And germans in whole abide to speed limits far more than Brits do. so dont really understand how you can use germany as an example

I think the biggest problem is that no-one is expecting anything to be doing that sort of speed - in Germany it's expected that cars will be doing much higher speeds so you would naturally be more aware of what's going on around you. I didn't know this guy was there till he had gone passed me...

All it would have taken was for me to go to change my radio station and drift off to the right slightly and that would have been someone all the more interesting for my roadhawk to capture...
