engine light 2.2 vectra 2003

morning
my engine light came on my 2.2 petrol vec 2003
the one on the right hand side of dashboard (not the spanner light)
what could this indicate ,i have the equipment to check when i get home but im at work at the moment.
there is no lack of power ,i just wondered if it was an emisions light like my old 2.6

i will get the code later but any ideas would be a help

How many miles are on the engine? When was the timing chain last changed?

If the chain is stretching (could be the old style oil nozzle which causes poor lubrication issues), this can cause an increase in emissions as it knocks your timing out slightly. This could in turn switch on the light you're seeing.

The miles are 74 k timing chain done 2006 no rattles from it

Yes it is. The EML light normally just relates to things on the air intake, spark and exhaust side of things. It may just be something like a dodgy Lambda sensor or MAF.

i was stuck in traffic when it came on then drove 130 miles home without a problem

On my 2.2 direct my eml came on when I had a sticky thermostat. Does your temp gauge read correctly. Prob not this but worth a look.

Temp gauge all good sits half way no problem goes up a little then fan cuts in

i have took some live readings ,to me the front lamda sensor looks to be high compared to the other one
it goes from about 70 about 900
whereas the other one just goes up to about 180
