    Default Long life?

How important is it to use long life oil in the car. I've owned it nearly 2 months and done 2-3k miles roughly. Oil is down to halfway mark from full.

Checked the oil and it says long life but what difference does it really make and is this too much oil for a 2.0 dti to be using?

Turbo pipes don't seem excessively dirty and no leaks I can see.

Vauxhall (along with several other manufacturers) say that their engines can consume 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles.

Dipstick measure between min & max is 1 litre.

As you're getting 2,000 to 3,000 miles with it only half way down from the full mark (approx ½ litre used), that's not bad going.

Vauxhall recommend that long life 5w/30 fully synth oil is used in all Vec-C and Signum engines. Whether you stick to that regime or change to 10w/40 semi synth is up to you. Not sure if you can mix the 2 oils though, but when I needed a top up miles from home one day, I was told that I'd compromise the long life oil by putting 10w/40 in. As it was only 1 month to the next service it didn't really matter though.

Hmm, i may just do a full oil change then and put the long life in it. no idea whats in it atm but when i bought it the dealer topped it up from his oil barrel and I'm pretty certain he's not gonna have long life in that :P

You really only need the VX LL spec oil if your sticking to the 20K service intervals imo.

And your car is covered by a warranty
Even for top up purposes you can use any synthetic oil

Once the warranty has expired you can pretty much use any synthetic oil
