Angry End of the line for me and Vx

Got a call form the dealer today saying that my Vectra was ready all fixed and ready to go! At last - new gearbox, new dash, new wiring loop!

After an hour and half trip down the motorway I collected my keys and pulled out of the dealership. Seems a bit sluggish in 1st Im thinking to myself, and then it stalls. Something not right here... It wont go into to first at all. What I assumed to be first gear was in fact third!!! Span it round after 100 meters and drove right back to the dealership and lost it with them - NO FIRST GEAR - How can they not notice this?????

I cannot begin to tell you how angry I am. In fact angry does not even come close to how I feel. As soon as the car is back with me I will getting rid for something none Vx

Never ever again will I buy Vx

Probably the worst thing about Vx is their dealerships and customer care...

Give the vec a chance once it's fixed before you bin it....please..

Whilst its understandable that you are both angered by an obvious lack of service and problems that really shouldn't be happening, you need only take a look around the forum to see that 99% of people are delighted with their cars.

I've had more cars than most 28 year olds having owned a VW Passat TDi 130 SE, Audi A4, Ford Mondeo x2, SEAT Leon Cupra Turbo x2, SEAT Toledo 20v SE, Fiat Punto Mk2 HGT and Sporting and Renault Laguna Sports Tourer. I'm now on my third Vec-C and this one is the best built car I've owned. I feel plenty qualified to say that the grass is certainly not greener on the other side of the fence. Every manufacturer produces a certain percentage of "duff" cars. Vauxhall are nowhere near being the worst offenders. Would you believe that the least reliable manufacturer is Porsche, allegedly Germany's finest?

If you want 100% reliability, you ain't going to find it anywhere, cars are mechanical devices and as such they will break down at one point or another. Japanese manufacturers are as close as you're going to get IMO. With a couple of notable exceptions I find them to be drab, benign, dull and devoid of any sort of spirit.

So, yes. There are some lemons in the VX bed of roses but there are a lot less than any of the French manufacturers or Ford or probably even the mighty VW group for that matter. You seem to have ample reason to disagree based on your experiences of the Opel/Vauxhall brand, but most of us are happy as larry and we'll stick with our Vauxhalls thanks.

Same here. My Passat was pants. I had it from a few months old until 18 months. It had constant electrical problems and was the most unreliable car I've owned. The dealers were pants as well.

Two years with no faults at all on my Vec.

TBH i would understand your obvious disgust at vauxhall service but im one of the 99% of owners who absolutely love their cars and bad dealers aside would not hesitate to buy another griffin badged vehicle, ive owned 42 vehicles to date (im only 35) and every time ive ventured to buy something non griffin badged ive had nothing but bother so for me its vauxhall everytime! and anyhow there are otheravenues you can go down to achieve satisfaction, pm me and ill tell you how!

I have had more than my fair share of new Vauxhalls in the last few years:

    2001 - Vectra-B 2.2 SRi
    2002 - Vectra-C 2.2 SRi
    2003 - Vectra 2.2 SRi
    2003 - Vectra 2.0T SRi
    2004 - Astra 1.8 Convertible
    2005 - Vectra 2.0T SRi
    2005 - Signum 2.2 Exclusiv
    2006 - Astra VXR
    2006 - Vectra 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi
    2006 - Vectra 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi XP
    2006 - Vectra 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi XP

In all these cars, I have only experienced two problems:

    1) The alarm kept going off on the first Vec C SRi. I understand this was a known problem on the new model (C) and was quickly sorted.

    2) The turbo hose blew off the first Vec 2.0T SRi a couple of times. Again, I understand that this was a known problem on the first few 2.0T models.

Most manufacturers produce pretty reliable cars these days and all manufacturers produce the odd lemon. If you want to stand the best chance of avoiding problems (statistically) then look to Japan, avoid the French or Italians and definitely dont buy a Land Rover.

Reliability is just one of many buying considerations however!

i think the problem is their customer care although if you push them they can be good. Dealership wise i find ite the 'technicians' that dont know their 4r5e from their elbow let alone an engine as they are just out of school that are the problem. too few genuine mechanics at dealerships now.
