Default Thunking of getting a 3.0CDTI

As title. This one will be for the missus. Tell me the pro's and cons of this engine. I have no experience of diesels at all.

I've been told it due a cam belt change and that there is a belt and chain to do on these engines.

Can anyone advise me on cost etc.

Any thing else then let me know.

No chain just a belt mate cost for
The kit about £149 on the bay , time
To change it 1.2 hours , easiest timing belt ever

    I've done 40k
In my 3.0 in 2.5 years and I average about 39 mpg can't fault it to
    Be
    Honest

Nice engine had mine about 15 months done 30k

Biggest problem you'll have if you don't do your own work is finding someone who knows the engine.

Parts seem to be expensive due to rarety of engine.
But then again fairly sturdy engine.

Common fault seems to be scv ( suction control valves)

Watch out for any that's loosing coolant as could be head gasket/ sicken cylinder liners.

If the liners have sunk saybye to engine.
And injectors are around 200 a piece mark.

But don't let that put you off as. As I've said good engine.
And a pretty good mpg for its size.

I was told there's 2 belts. I stand corrected. As for the engine it's a dream to drive especially the auto.

SCV's do seem to be their only Achilles heal, but I don't think ive noticed anyone here having these issues below 100K though.

There is the normal timing belt and the Aux belt, do the Aux at the same time as the timing belt and it'll cost you an extra £15-£20.
I would defiantely have another 3.0 tomorrow, the torque is great, it never seems stressed.
Overall for the last 2 years is around 40 mpg and if you use cruise at 70 mph you will see around 53 mpg on a run.
