    Default respray at home?

hey guys. been toying with the idea of sorting out a couple of dents in the bodywork and respraying the car at home. i dont have access to a booth so would be a garage or on the drive with a gazebo or something. been reading up and i've heard that really good results can be achieved with proper prep.
anybody done anything like this and what paint is the best for home use?
    cheers

TBH no matter how good your prep is you'll still get issues with free floating dust, something that is lessened in a sealed booth.

I did a full respray on my 72 Bug in my dads back garden and am very happy with the end results, I didn't even use any sort of gazebo. The biggest problem will be bugs attracted to the smell of the lacquer, they just seem to home in on it. What i did was water the surrounding grass area so it was wet, thus reducing bits of grass flying about when doing the running board area (sills) the other thing i did was spray in middle of summer when in theory the hottest weather is about, but sprayed at 5am the reason for this is that the bugs are not about that time in the morning. From the whole shell of the car I had 3 blemishes which I managed to rub out and polish up.

As for paint I used the ame type of paint as if a body shop were doing it. Base coat then lacquer.

I take it you have a proper spray set up, i.e a big enough compressor to handle the job.

I did a complete respray of a mini some years ago... well decades really (yes I am a boring old fart).
The colour was supposed to be "sable" it came out like a matt diarrhea... it was distinctive if nothing else, I was always getting pulled over. I suppose any excuse would do in those days.

I sincerely hope you have better luck than me on this one

    cheers
    Bill

I can put you in contact with who I get my paint from, They supply most independent sprayers for the majority of north lincolnshire. If you decide to do it then spend money on a decent mask. paint fumes are not too bad bout the 2k lacquer can seriously mess you up, something you might not notice now but it will come back to haunt you in later life.

Anything 2k is not good for you. As long as you use a mask everything will be fine.
