Default What has been your 'what a div' moment?

For the last week or 2 id been hearing a noticable blowing coming from what appeared to be under the car, got her up on ramps, looked at usual culprets like exhaust flexi etc but ****** could i find a blow/leak, so i thought there was nothing for it id have to take to an exhaust specialist, he takes it round the corner, hear her revving up, guy comes back and speaks to reception and he turns to me and says theres nothing wrong with your exhaust but your air box lid wasnt properly screwed down which was causing a blowing/sucking sound. Then i realised when i refitted hids after mot i didnt put airbox back properly, what a muppet lol

I was replacing both exhaust on my omega v6 from the cat backwards did one side at a time but halfway doing second one gets a phone call that my mate needed a tow , so to stop spanners etc going missing i laid all tools away and went off in the wifes car to get him. Ended up being a all day event sorting his car. Next day jump up and off i go to work get upto my usual motorway cruisng speed then one almighty bang and look in the mirror to see the car behind swerving and flashing his lights i`d only forgot to clamp up the back box lol.

    I got my first car when I was 19 - a 1.0 K reg Nissan Micra...

Salesman advised changing the anti-freeze so me and my father set about it. Something went wrong somewhere along the line as during my attempt a few days later to max out the speedo at 100mph down the M6 (young, stupid, and no rev counter...) I managed to overheat the big end bearings and trash the engine...

    Replacement fitted for £250...

i do remember one, my first ever oil change on my first car, a 1 litre metro. parents were away so decided to do it in the garage.

drained the old stuff, no problem.

i then filled it back up, and i mean filled, to the top.

took it for a spin round the block, white smoke pouring out everywhere.

turns out you dont have to fill the engine to the top!!

lesson learned and no lasting harm done, i just had my own james bond style smoke screen for 5 minutes lol

Guess my worst one was when I was about 14, the alternator had gone on my dads Toyota Cressida, recon alternator came back, car was outside on the drive and on a downhill bank into the garage. decided to push the car in, it gathered a bit of speed and then went straight into the corner of the work bench.

Resulting in a largish dent in the front of the wing, turned out not to be the alternator, but a broken wire and my dad was trading the car in later that week....

    No pocket money for me...
