wining sound on acceleration

hello everyone
I have vectra c 2003 1.8 petrol.there seems to be a sound coming from the engine on acceleration.the best way i can describe the sound is like as if the ecu is making an adjustment or a correction somewhere.there is no consistency on when it happens,but only when acceleration.
hopefully someone may be able to put me on a path to investigate
