Default How to tell if the Cam Belt and Water Pump has been changed?

As the title suggests... How do you tell? The garage I bought the car from said they had it done when it came in but havent put the paper work in the pack.

Its the same with the EGR valve, but I can tell that been changed as it's obviously new.

So would it be quite obvious if I just popped the cover off and had a look? I've done less than 1k miles in it since I bought it.

    OK - the z19dt is the 120 , the z19dth is the 150..

TBH you can have a visual inspection with the belt cover removed - and if its really new you will see the print on the belt still all look fresh and the water pump should look new compaired to the block etc....

Apart from that not much really you can do.. I would say that if you dont trust its been done - and you are at the age / mileage, change it mate.. Not worth the mess it leaves when it fails!

Also if its a genuine VX belt there will be yellow timing lines printed on the belt - and a GM part number on the back plate of the water pump and tensioner.

Did they say if they did just the belt - or a belt kit, so including the tensioner and roller pulley?

Take some pics mate and post them here and we can help

Ive done about 6 belt kits now on the 1.9 CDTI in the space of a month - lol - and I have one in this weekend...

Hmm - what mileage do you have.

I wouldnt change a belt without a new tensioner and roller pulley TBH.. Its not worth it.. Take some pics tomorrow and lets see... But if your only taking the black plastic cover off you wont see the tensioner and roller pulley.. At least it will give you an idea,

I'd be supprised if a garage would change a belt without the full belt kit TBH - but then again you never know... Was it a VX garage or indie?

It was an independent, but their service has been great with everything to do with the car so far. I'm just embarrassed to go back and see them after the car I traded in lol
