Default nut for additional earth lead

i have the lead in place but not bolted down on the engine end as i dont seem to have the correct nut.

does anyone know what i would need from halfords, as going there for oil and sockets anyway.

im not sure i found a nut to fit it but when i tightened it it didnt bite, i think it doesn't have a normal tread. i cut it off and drilled a hole through where it was and fitted a normal nut and bolt, much better. HTH

trying to avoid doing that but it is an option, the correct bolt would be a lot easier, i just hoped someone had bought one they found to fit.

failing that i will just keep looking, one will turn up

Instead of Halfords, why not drive to a small, local nuts and bolts company and ask them for help? They'll be able to measure the thread pitch and diameter and sell you a suitable nut for pennies. Look in your Yellow Pages (or yell.com) under 'Fasteners' or 'Nuts and Bolts'

i did think of that, there is one in brum i used years ago but just wondered about halfords as i am going there anyway.

might see if that place in brum is still there actually.

Places like Wilkinsons and B&Q also do nuts, but you would still only be guessing.

I drilled a fresh hole and used an normal nut and bolt after not having any in my 'nuts' jar that fitted, its a strange thread, almost like its for plastic nuts.

ok then. yes it does seem to have an odd thread. does the little thing its attached to come off at all?

if so i may take it into a fasteners place and see what they can find, cheaply of course.

i am at work and cant recall if it is removable

I'd take a guess it's a metric fine rather than metric course thread- though as I've never looked at it, I really am just guessing It would be useful to get a fastener place to find out what it actually is, then you can post on here so that in future people can do a search and find out. And they'll thank you for going to the trouble

when i am next under the bonnet i will see if i can unbolt the bit and then see what i can find.

if i find out what it is i will try and buy a few bolts, they probably wont be too keen on selling one anyway!
