    Afternoon all.

With Fathers day coming, the mrs looking at getting me a polisher for the car.

Was looking at the Kestrel DAS-6.
    http://www.cleancar.ie/kestreldas-6completekit.html

Is the Spin Doctor any better than the DAS-6???

Just want to know what kit i should get to go with it, or is that enough.

Anyone know if i can get this cheaper anywhere else.

    Cheers all.

The Spin Doctor is a Rotary Polisher, the Das 6 is a DA(Dual Action). Technically the spin doctor is a better polisher as they cut faster and are more powerful, down side is its easier to make a mistake and burn through with a rotary. Many people have the Das 6, they are great polishers. TBH dont buy the Spin Doctor either, they are only rebranded rotary polisher. Plenty of cheaper ones from Silverline etc that do the same job.

    sounds like good advice there.

Will go for a Dual Action one so. Product wise. Are the starter kits all i need to get me going. I have clay bars AG super resin polish and high gloss wax already.

I have the Kestrel, Brilliant machines. www.cleanyourcar.co.uk

    Have you machine polished before?

A DA like the Kestrel is perfect for beginners, Sorry if I sound like im underminding you here (I don't know what you know) but a DA means dual action, so it doesn't constantly spin like a rotary, So cutting the paint is slower, and safer, not much change of accidently burning through paint as long as you don't keep it held in the same position. The idea of the DA is like i say for it not to be concentrating in the same area for long this keeps the pad cool. The rotary spins in the same place, making the paint warm and easier to burn through.

A few tips for using either machines is to always keep the pad wet, never let it dry out. Always keep the machine moving, and a bit of pressure to keep the pad flat. The pad flat on the paint won't give you hologram effects.

Always clay the car, clay is actually clay, made for your car, mouldable consitstacy which you rub over your paint to remove tree sap, tar and any other contaminations. Must always work on a clean panel.

don't bother with the sonus kit on cleanyourcar.co.uk, I have used this and I find the polish dries out to quickly, Menzerna is a brillaint polish, or for 100 bucks, you can get the 3m 3 stage polish kit, which includes your 3 hex pads as well.

I have used my DA on about 8 cars, and I feel ready to move onto a rotary, i borrowed a friends rotary the other day to polish a bumper, it works so much quicker, but might be a bit violent to a beginner, depends how hands on you are.

not sure where you are based, but if your local to me feel free to pop over for a demo.

Never go cheap, but value for money the kestral is faultless DA, if you want to go straight to rotary then a Silverline one, for 50 quid is the best.
