Default Gearbox Drain Plug (F40) ahhhh!!! :( HELP!

OK - so there was a slight weap on the drain plug so I thought I would remove and give it a new one.

    10 min job NORMALLY!

Went to undo the drain plug - and will it budge = NO... In the end the T45 socket just twisted in the hole and knackered it!.

    So I have tried:
Hammering in an oversized T socket = Same result - just twists in the plug
Hammer a socket on the outer of the plug = Nope - not really enough clearance
Chisel a grove and then with a bigger chisel try and hammer it off = Nope - just chissels away the metal of the plug!

So - am out of ideas and now stuck!

Thinking that maybe a lefthanded thread into the hole where the T fitment once was and then a left handed bolt to that I can do the bolt up in the hole and then undo the plug???

Failing that - take it to a garage to that they can use the tools I dont have; Welder, heat etc...

Peeeeed off now!! Never been beaten by a rounded bolt before but these are made of butter!!!

    HELP - ideas?

    A

Nah - no clearance to get them round the outside - plus its a much bigger sized bolt than the biggest irwin tool.

I think screw extractors are the only way. Failing that someone who can weld a nut on it or something.

Maybe it's leaked in the past and a previous owner or servicing garage thought the clever thing to do would be to tighten the hell out of it.

Well - got the laser easy outs or screw extractors (what ever you want to call them).. Put the right one in, started undoing and it started tightening in the hole - great all good so far.

Got it nice and tight - continued to turn it to undo and SNAP! the F'ING screw extractor snaps in the hole!!

GREAT - its leaking now more than before where I have tried to remove...

SO - having failed I thought - ill have to book it in somewhere for them to remove it (dunno how)... But then I thought I would call Mr Clutch in SL where I had the clutch done. Spoke to Dan and he said - ahhh no problem, bring it to me in the morning and ill get Dave (workshop foreman) to chisel it straight out... I did mention that I had tried that and he told me not to worry - bring it in and he will have it straight off!!

Slightly happier - will be more so when its off tomorrow!

Another PLUS for Mr Clutch in Slough!

Watching this with thread with interest! Good luck!

I guess when it gets to this point, could something just be welded on to it?

TBH that was my next step. Go to a garage to gt a nut or something welded to it - lets see if Mr Clutch will buge it.. I tried the chisel method - but just kept eating into the metal of the plug... Maybe my chisel was too sharp! lol...

Let you all know - A
