    Default cooling system problems

    I have a 56 plate vectra 1.9tdci 150 and I have just replaced the thermostat now the temp guage is going off the scale but the radiator is stone cold, anyone know what I need to do?

    Looks like an airlock mate have you opened the bleed screw and vented the air out

    Remember to bleed it with the cabin air temp set to full hot

    And don't over tighten the bleed screw. I learnt the hard way!!

    Yes you can mate in the pipe it is fitted to at a cost of £121 from the dealers you can get one from the scrappies but best to be careful works most every time

    ok, so i tried what was suggested and even took the pipes off the heater matrix as suggested by the haynes manual, its sitting now at 90 degrees with no overheating but my cabin heater is blowing hot one minute and then lukewarm the next. Any ideas?

    Theres still air in there mate try running it without the expansion tank cap on from cold until the engine heats up thats how I did mine recently no issues with airlocks

    Problem Solved, it worked for a while but went bad again, it was fine on some journeys but overheating on others, the pipe from the thermostat seemed to get cooler the further away it got from the engine, i suspected the waterpump so purchased a new one, on removing the old one the impellor had come away from the shaft. all replaced now and working fantasticaly, thankyou all for your help!
