Default Halfords Castrol Engine Oil Offer

Halfords has Castrol Magnetec 5W-30 Vauxhall A3 B3/B4 on offer at £17.50 for a 4 litre container. It's Fully Synthetic to spec. GM-LL-A-025 & GM-LL-B-025.

A 2 litre container of their own brand 5W-30 is £18.99 and a 1 litre container of Mobil 1 0W/40 is £16.99 so it seems to be a good deal. Pity it doesn't come in a 5 litre container as I've had to buy two of 4 litres as my sump contains 4.3 litres.

    £17.50 for 4 litres
I think VX OE oil still works out cheaper for a 5 litre bottle (cost per litre basis)

The majority of all retail synthetic oil comes in 4 litre bottles now
I find this useful for my own, as I supply two bottles and get about 1 litre left over (the Y30DT engine takes just over 7 litres)

Castrol advised us of a price change, which comes into effect next week
This will see a 1 litre bottle go to £22.95, and a 4 litre bottle £29.95
It is getting to the point where we might stop stocking the 1 litre bottle

Any GM-LL specification should be used when under (any) warranty
Outside warranty you can use any synthetic oil

The Vx oil is also better quality - Castrol oil doesn't meet the Dexos2 standard, whereas GM's Dexos2 oil obviously does.

Only if you get it at trade price, if you dont Dexos2 is £49 for 5lt.

I much prefer Magnatec over Dexos 2, hopefully Asda will have it on a mad offer before long, last time it was £10 for 4lt of fully syn GM specific.

That can't be right, as I only paid £20 for a bottle a few weeks ago (and that was a plain discount)
I'll see what they charge for 8 litres in a few weeks time when my car is serviced

I went to VX for a filter back in March, the parts guy asked me if I needed oil, I asked him how much Dexos2 was, he said he could do it for me for £19. When he came back through with the oil and filter I said to him thats a good price, he said he always puts them through at the trade club price and claims it back through VX, he said "if I tried to sell it at the retail price id never sell any". On checking the receipt the retail price it was indeed £49........
