Default Air con issues - Vauxhall cant help, can you?

    Hi guys,

bought a 07 plate Vectra last year and have issues with the AC.

Basically as it got warmer last year the aircon didnt work.
So went to VX dealer who looked at it and stated that the condenser needs replacing.

Paid £600+ for that and after 3-4 weeks it went warmer and warmer again. So back to VX who looked at it and said that they cant find any other leaks. They refilled it free of charge.
3 weeks aftert that AC just started to blow warm again

So VX had the car for another 2 days - no result
So they quoted that it could be the evapourator which is located behind the dashboard. This would cost around £900, mainly for the labour the get the dash off, though they cant garantee that this would be the issue

So I left it as winter was approaching.

Went to a different Vx dealer last week who looked at it and couldnt find any leak either. Refilled it with dye and asked me to come back in a week.
On collection I mentioned to him about the evap (didnt want to say it before, to see what they come up with) and to my surprise, he said that there are no AC parts behind the dash apart from the 2 pipes that direct the cold air into the cockpit.

So, can someone of you experts put some light on this?
Apparently all AC part are in the engine compartment and if there was to be a leak, then it would be there. But since they cant see dye anywhere .....

So my own logical theory would be that there might be a leak within the compressor? Maybe on the inside somewhere to release the gas into the cockpit without actually showing any signs on the outside of the part itself?

Please someone must be able to put some lights on my mysery

    Thanks folks

    Hi mate.

There is indeed an evaporator inside the cabin. If this is leaking then I believe you would smell and choke on it. It needs the dye adding to it and tracing properly

Both VX dealer used the UV lights to track the leak.

I also mentioned to them to check the cabin air vents for any dye with the UV in case it is the vaporator as this will blow the dye into the cabin.

I dont know how the AC gas smells. Would it be that bad that you are choking on it? then thats not the case.

Oh no. So you are having the same issue?
You would think that VX would find an issue like that with all the high tec they use ;o(

I guess open window it is and sweaty shirts then if you have the same unidentifiable issue

It has been in 5 times for this fault to the point of the dealer ignoring my attempts to book in.. Had to get VX involved and they have asked to have the car booked in to monitor it. point being it was first submitted under manufacturers warranty... Both my Vecs (have 2) have the same problem... inface I've had three Vectra Cs ALL with this problem!!

I am really shocked to hear that?
So it appears no point pursuing this any further as Vx seems incapable ofrectifying this fault ;o(

Might be worth taking the car to an air conditioning specialist, rather than a garage that also does air con regases and services.

mhm .... that might be an option,.

Though I thought .. IF someone can fix it ... then VX as they might have most experience with their own cars

But maybe I should think outside the box here .....
