    Default Swirl Valve Replacement Cost

Was hoping I could find out roughly what people have paid to fix a broken swirl valve on a 1.9 CDTi 150, 2004 model.

I had it serviced a week or so back and was advised that the swirl valve is goosed. Im also due a timing belt replacement so its a double kick in the nuts (and wallet!). I had already enquired with one garage about the timing belt who quote approx £180-200 +VAT. Im still trying to get quotes on the swirl valve replacement but one garage I spoke to quoted me £650 +VAT for both the swirl valve and the timing belt. I wanted to make sure Im not getting ripped off with a quote like that.

Also, am I right in thinking that the only proper, long term fix for a broken swirl valve is a full inlet manifold replacement? Ive read up a tiny little bit about it, but Im not that technically minded so most of it went over my head.

    Thanks in advance people.

To completetly fix the swirl valves does involve a new inlet manifold.

However, a few of us on this forum have implemented (acceptable to us) workarounds. I for one do not envisage putting a new inlet manifold on my 2004 1.9 CDTi. Time will tell whether this works out in reality but I have no reason to suspect otherwise.
If I can get another 2 or 3 years with the workarounds, I will be happy.

I suppose its all a matter of personnal choice. If you spend the money and replace, you have assurance for the longer term. If you go for the workaround, then you will have to periodically keep an eye out for it.

My workaround (glue them in the open position) cost £5 for glue and less than 1 hour of my time. I may well will have to repeat a few times in the coming years. Small price to pay I think.

I think Im gonna be keeping the car for a while so will hopefully get the manifold done. Anyone got any experience of this and rough costs involved?

Also, are there any other options other than just a stock Vauxhall manifold without breaking the bank? Not sure if a 3rd party one from somewhere would be beneficial or not.

mine was 4.5 hours at vxl which was £410 inc vat plus £170 for part from LMF. my local garage wanted 8 hours so although their labour charge was cheaper vxl could do it quicker it was cheaper to go there

Ive been quoted so far £650 +vat for timing belt and new manifold. Not sure how that breaks down from that garage but another is quoting me approx £180-200 +VAT just for timing belt. So, about £400+VAT for manifold. Does that sound about right to you guys?

I would get a labour quote for the 2 jobs from vauxhall and get the parts yourself, because they do it regularly it may work out cheaper. worth a call.....

The question is, when your manifold has been replaced, do you blank the EGR to stop it from clogging up again? I'm in a similar position having had my manifold replaced a couple of months ago and when I find a couple of hours will be considering making up a plate. I can live with the emissions light, improved performance and fuel economy - any downsides?
Manifold, swirl actuator (they've been uprated since 2004, because Pierburg admit the design of the old manifold and swirls were p1ss p00r!) , timing belt and water pump would be at least £600.
