    Default EGR cooler

    I have recently had to replace the pipe running from the exhaust manifold to the cooler prior to the egr valve. The pipe cracked before finally blowing off. Prior to this I had the egr valve blanked off. Would this have caused any back pressure issues which could have led to the pipe cracking and failing. Strangely although the car sounded like a tank and had no power mpg was the best it's ever been

    mine been blanked for a year and no problems. how did it drive when the pipe blow off and did it do any other damage?

    Sounded like an old russian tank, no power so had to revs the nuts off it but still got 50mpg all the way from Bournemouth to Doncaster. When the pipe finally came of it hit the fan on the nearside and melted one of the blades to the housing

    Is yours totally blanked off or have you drilled a hole in the centre of the blanking plate?

    I did consider this side effect i.e. a small bore area designed for the gasses to flow throw is being changed into a small bore area with the gasses nowhere to go except out of the exhaust. However, practical experience, as expressed on this forum, tends to suggest that this does not usually cause a problem.
