Default Some reassurance before I turn the key

Have done cambelt and water pump today, and once I worked the tensioner out thanks to the chaps on my other thread, its all gone back together fine. However...........

.....when I was fitting the cambelt over the cam pulley it suddenly turned about 25* anti-clockwise. It did trap my finger causes a deep wound but thats not the issue.

I moved the pulley back to the fresh mark I made before removing the belt. The fitted the belt again, this time with no problems.

Am I right in thinking that even though the pulley moved by re-setting it exactly where it was it should be ok/

The crank pulley never moved and after rotating the engine twice all the marks line up perfectly and italso rotated freely.

    Cheers chaps

    Yes you will be fine.

as long as you put the cam pulley back before attaching the belt there will be no issue. And after rotation if all the timing marks lined up - no issue.

Did you get the genuine VX cam belt kit? If so the belt has yellow timing marks so you cant go wrong with the positions of the cam / crank easily?

Did you align the yellow lines when you first fitted it - so one on the crank mark - one on the cam pulley at approx 1 oclock and one on the pump pulley (which doesnt actually need to be marked).. You will of course notice that once you turn the crank over with it fitted the yellow markers wont line up again, but as long as the cam / crank are in the correct position at the markers you are cool.
