cheaning the car!!

good morning just a quick one i take my car to the Russians to get cleaned most of the time they do a ok job.

i bought a new panel filter yesterday and was looking at cleaning products the bloke said ill do you the auto glym clay bar set for a score so i bought it .

my question is so i clean the car then i do the clay bar after i do this do i polish the car this is where i get confused.

and also whats the best stuff to use for the chrome bits around the car and also the outside black trims.

and what about polish the wheels?

You need to wash the car again after your clay it, then dry it then you can polish it.

Wash the car first to remove any mud etc then clay it. It'll tell you on the instructions to do it with either a wet or a dry car. After that, wash again, polish if you want then wax it. Claying will remove any protection from the paint. Autoglym Bumper Care is good on all things black plastic. For the chrome on the front and boot strip, a bit of metal polish. If your car has the chrome under the windows these can't be polished because if I remember right they're plastic.

Please please please don't take it to the Russians/Polish/Europeans! After taking it there once your car will need a full correction. They generally use an acid based TFR which, yes does get rid of grime, but also gets rid of any other protection you've laid down. Also the same sponge/mitt they've used after a days worth of cars in the same bucket full of other cars crap.

Fortunately your cars silver so you cant really see the damage this does.

So rant over, everyone has different methods as to what you do with clay but generally speaking it's:

- Pre-wash (So anything from snowfoam to a citrus cleanse to loosen up the grime and rubbish)
- Wash (I personally use the two bucket method, one with clean water one with the shampoo of your choice)
- Rinse (exactly as it says)
- Clay/De-Tar/De-iron/wheels (After washing and rinsing the body is when i'd Clay it, make sure you use plenty of lube and the last thing you want is the clay to start dragging dirt around the car. You can cut a standard size clay bar into around 6 chunks to do 6 cars worth of claying. There are also products on the market that break down the tar and 'dissolve' the iron deposits in the paint work use these on the low parts of the car where you generally get tar spots and on the wheels)
- Wash again
- Rinse

If my car was particularly swirly i would then get polishing either by my DA or by hand. There are some very good products out there that work well by hand to help fill the swirls and bring some life out in the paint. To finish i would lay down a good layer of wax to give it some protection and will be easier to maintain the shine.

As i said, everyone has their own method of detailing/cleaning. Thats just a rough guide on how to easily maintain the paint work, you can (and i do) a hell of a lot more during the cleaning the process. If you want any advice send me a PM

Nice little collection there I love autoglym stuff but for the dash I use meguiars quick dash summit and it restores the dash to a new none shinney dash
