Default is it wrong to wash the car in the sun

only reason i`m asking is when i was washing the car the other day in the sun, a neighbour said its a bad idea as the soap gets in the paint work on warm/hot days, wether its true or not i don`t have the means to wash it under cover, and to be honest i`ve never heard this before

Well... I'm not an expert by any means, but that sounds a bit too paranoid for me.
I could well understand someone saying not to wax it in the sun, but washing it? I'd think as long as you get the excess water off then it would be fine.

    I'll watch with interest

    cheers

I always do in the shade, just to stop the polish going off too quickly etc and to avoid streaks...

If you wash in the sun it will streak. Its not all lost though, thoroughly rinsing or washing half the car at a time and rinsing will help prevent streaking. I was just speaking to JohnIS3 about this last night, I was saying to him that I had to get out and wash my car at 8am on Monday to try to get it done before the heat and sun really got up. Always dry it after washing too, to prevent water spots.

I have to (well I don't have to!!) wash the car in the sun due to the position of my drive etc, so, I do it panel at a time, pre-rinse, wash, rinse, roof sides etc and have no real issues then I blade the car after a sprinkle with Demon shine through the mixer bottle of my pressure washer.

Using water enhancers like demon shine certainly make life a lot easier when it comes to washing cars , as others have said in these current temperatures its probably best to do it a panel or section at a time especially in direct sunlight .

No, as above the issue is the faster evaporation of the water and streak marks (left by the washing agent)
The trick is to use MORE water, ideally slightly warmer or hot
Golden rules; clean sponge, lots of water

Next your neighbour will be telling you not to clean the car at night...
