Default Tyre sizes for 18" snowflake alloys please 225/40 or 225/45

I have secured a set of 18" VXR Snowflake alloys to go on the vec and replace the 19"s I have, for some reason the tyres are 205/40/18, I believe standard Astra VXR are 225/40/18 and these would be fine for a Vectra as XP 18"s have these tyres.

I know a Vectra VXR with these wheels take a 235/40/18 but someone mentioned 225/45/18 which I thought would be to big?

    Thanks

The standard wheel for the Vec VXR was the same 18" snowflake so it'll fit with no problems. The correct tyre for that wheel on a Vec is actuallY 235/40/R18. Excellent compromise for price and looks

thanks so 40/18 is correct, what difference would 225 tyres make over 235 tyres? if they fit 225 on the Vectra XP I presume the 235 for a VXR is wider for the extra power?

The 40 profile is a percentage of the width of the tyre mate.

A 235/40 tyre will be bigger and fill the arch better than a 225/40. It will also keep the speedo correct

The 225 tyres fitted to other Vec's as standard were 225/45s meaning they had a deeper profile than the 225/40s

I swapped my 215/55/16 tyres for 225/40/18 to keep the same rolling circumference. If you go to 235/45/18 rolling circumference will be over 4% and nearly 3mph at 70 out. Having said that when tyres wear out may go up a size at back, followed by the front.

No-one suggested 235/45/R18s, those would be completely wrong

You'll find that the 235/40/R18's are only 0.4% different to a 215/55/R16 where as the 225/40/R18 is 0.9% out

I run with 235/40/18 They are The best match in my opinion. They also fill the arch as previously said.
