YouTube === Google Account = WHAT'S GOING ON ???

Yesterday i set up a new You Tube account ,

after losing my old account .

The new one gets you to set up a Google account which then somehow turns into a YouTube account .

BUT .......... you don't get to choose a user name .

And now my real name ( first and surname ) from the Google account is the one that is displayed on the YouTube account for the whole world to see .

Has this been done to stop copyrighted items being put on Youtube .

Is there a way to change my user name .

I suppose i could cancel and start again .

Where it says FIRST NAME and LAST NAME ......... i could just write something like ...

Joe Bloggs or Hit and Factory .

Has anyone else had any issues with the new( ish ) Youtube and Google account ?

I don't know if it's got something to do with Google changing their privacy policy - ie you can't hide behind a username - although it does have flaws like you have identified.

The username facility still exists in YouTube
By default your gmail account name is used
If you do not have a gmail account then the email address you signed up with is used
This username is only visible to yourself

The facility to change the display name is there in YouTube, it's just that it is well hidden

This is the username the public will see

They have decided, that is better to use the same account for utube...a while ago, they said that is better for their advertising google to fraternise with youtube account, so when u are making a google mail account u get a utube account. nothing strange and nothing dodgu about it. it is their policy !!!
