Default Vectra C DTI rattle clutch in or out

i have recently purchased a Vectra c hatch 2.0 DTI Active
it has 98k on the clock.
    The car pulls fine etc
It rattles when idling and as you accelerate it increases in frequency.
when cruising along it isn't as noticable but at low revs it is.
if when sitting still i rev to 1000rpm it will go away but much over this and it comes back.
there is virtually no difference whether the clutch is in or out so i am unsure if this is a DMF rattle or not.

Could it possibly be a noisy injector or a stuck valve ?

thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Judder on shutdown will depend on if you have the air cut-off flap in the inlet manifold - that closes to cut of air when the engine is switched off - or not. And also if it's working if you do have one.

Perhaps start with the easy stuff for the rattling problem i.e. is there anything loose? Have a good look underneath and in the engine bay. For example, the exhaust heatshields are prone to corroding around the securing screws which causes them to fall down and rattle against the exhaust. There are 2 to check - the front one above the catalytic convertor and front silencer, and the rear one above the rear silencer.

thank you for the input james, it is not a rattle as if a heat shield is touching something as it increases with the revs and is a touch louder than that would create.
i tried to record the noise but the microphone on my phone isn't sensitive enough.

I will certainly have a look for the air cut off flap, i presume this will be somewhere near the egr ?

The cut-off flap is right above the EGR, just under the front of the plastic engine cover. The vacuum pipe on it goes to a solenoid unit located above the radiator near the nearside headlight.

My DTi is on 108,000 miles and there's no clutch rattle at all although I guess it varies between individual cars depending on how they are driven, etc. The new CDTi tends to get through DMF's far faster than the old DTi.

My policy is to always start with the quick and easy stuff.

If the noise is there when the car is stationary, can you get someone to hold the revs where the rattle is worst while you have a look around?

You can rule heatshields in or out in a couple of minutes as you'll soon see if they are still secured by all of the securing nuts or not, and you don't need the engine running at all for that.

that is a good plan i'll get on that later today.

i am wondering if perhaps it is related to a failling/failed cam chain tensioner i had a similar noise with a failed cam chain tensioner on a previous audi i owned, which was ultimately related to oil sludge build up.
judging from a lot of postings on here the egr etc shows heavy amounts of build up so perhaps this is getting into the oil too ?

It could be a tensioner too. There's 2 chains and 2 tensioners on the DTi. Sounds like something to look at specifically when you've got your head stuck under the bonnet. I borrowed one of those engine stethoscopes once and could hear the chain clicking round through the metal covers!

If you suspect or find sludge, it may be worth doing an oil and filter change with flush? I flush mine every time with Wynns Professional engine oil flush but then I've had the car since it was 15 months old so can be pretty sure that - even though it's knocking on a bit - a flush isn't going to dislodge some sludge that's blocking a hole and end up with oil gushing out like a garden sprinkler

    hmm
i'm going to see if i can get this listened to by a vauxhall tech as soon as possible.
the last cam chain tensioner ended up being £400 just for the part!

service is on the top of the list.
i will be ordering the service parts on monday.
