Well - I decided that as it wasnt raining I would tackle the turbo change today!!
Chris (chrisvectra) came over also to lend a hand - and this was defo a job where two pairs of hands are better than one.
Now - as I didnt want to disturb the A/C we didnt remove the Rad Pack.. We did remove the bottom mounts and move the rad pack forward away from the car - but not out completely. You can get away with moving the left hand side out more once you have disconnected the rad - thermostat hose, coolant expansion tank return hose and the intercooler to inlet pipe.
All went well really.. Its a pig of a job I have to say.. I think both me and Chris agreed it wasnt a job that we particularly liked.. I like the 'big' jobs but this was just awkward at times..
Also - if I was to go it again - I think I would want to completely remove the rad pack and just get an AC regas.. I think that would make it s a much easier and quicker job...
But as I say no issues....
Used new gaskets where needed - which is a must..
Also a must to get the correct torque settings for the manifold studs / nuts etc..
Now - I have no WWWOOOOOOOOOOOO when I accerlate which is BRILLIANT!.. the car is now so quiet...
I also changed the aux belt and tensioner following on from doing my timing belt and since a run this eve - I have no belt woo either
Happy days!!
Big thanks to Chris also for an extra pair of hands - I think Chris must of held the turbo in place for about 20 mins whilst I was unbolding and moving the exhaust and oil retrn pipes etc.. Very helpful to have a helper
