Default Virgin Media Vs Modern Warfare

I was running Virgin Media 10 MB broadband package for £22.50 per month. Have been for years.

My Modern Warfare internet connection has been pretty poor at times, but overall its acceptable. Bit frustrating at times, but I could sort of live with it.

So I heard about the new Virgin Media 30 MB broadband packages for £22.50 per month and upgraded to the new superhub.

Now my Modern Warfare gameplay internet connection is so poor I've stopped playing it altogether. Its actually worse than it was before !!!

    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

Not sure I can help with your problem but I feel your pain! My BT connection is shocking most of the time, 5 miles down the road the poor villagers can't even get Broadband! I do enjoy the very odd good connection and blindingly quick game though... ...occasionally lol

Get BF3 and rent your own server based in Europe, We've got two of them for a site of mine, not had any issues at all with lag on them..

just been looking through the games section for the 1st time and spoons, are you / were running wireless on the xbox, ??

been on the virgin media forum as my wireless when i got the hub was terrible ...the super dud is having major issues with wireless connection full stop..( i still cant get back online if i close my laptop over unless i reset the modem ) and regardless of how many patches its not going to get better.. better using a wired connection to be honest, not had a single problem since i done this....

Virgin 'traffic shape' so if you reach your maximum allowance (Gaming could do this) they cut your speed to 25% of what it was.

Try it after midnight and see if its any better as they 'Traffic shaping' stops then.

meant to say as well, a lot of people on the VM forum have bought their own wireless router connected it to the superdud and set the hub to modem mode, this has greatly increased their online speed and stabilised their wireless connection

Hmmm, worth checking you have the latest drivers for your wireless card plus all your other drivers, graphics etc. I have yet to fix someones laptop/PC and find everything is up to date. Once the drivers are up to date then you can start finding out if the Super hub is causing the issues. I have as yet found no issues with our Superhub and the same goes for any others I have set up.

Once drivers are done, go to the following and run the speedtest, twice on wireless and twice on wire and see if there are any differences. I have 30 mb and it usually gets just over.If its below your stated speed then contact Virgin and get them to sort it as unlike BT Virgin shoud be able to do something about:

    www.speedtest.net
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

merikito, all virgin will do will be to send a new hub out or get 2nd line tech to remote fiddle with your setting before deciding to send a new hub out

there is problems with the hub in the UK and in either 2 or 3 other countries who use the same type of router and thyt are forever trying new firmware (whatever that is ) to try and solve it without success, im on the virgin media forums as i was trying to work out why my 60 meg internet was running at 3 meg !!! there is approx 230 seperate threads regarding poor wireless connections, drop offs lack of range etc from the hub, the vast majority now set the hub to modem mode and go out and buy their own wireless router

connect your computer using an ethernet cable and try this from someone not working for VM took my 3 meg upto 45 -50 meg on wireless

this fixes the issue 9/10 times

    open a web browser
in the address bar at the top where it says http://www.
clear the bar so its blank
    and type 192.168.0.1
    username:admin
    password:changeme
    click advanced settings
    then wireless settings
    change encryption to wpa2-psk(aes)
change channel to anything apart from 1/6/11(try multiple channels if still slow)
    and last but not least
    change mode to 145.
    click apply

since i done this speed on both the xbox and laptops never been an issue just the wirelss drop outs to solve

alot of people get these 100mb connection speeds and wonder why things are not running faster when infact they are connected via a wireless connection that is limited, even the newest wireless cards are running at 54mb full speed and if the signal is poor not just how strong the signal is but the actual quality of the signal will also affect the speed that the cards can connect at

wired connection is best thats what I stick with and I use BT infinity fibre to the cabinet which has a faster upload speed than virgin

thats another thing that will affect your gaming speed your machine has to tell the other machine that it has got the data that has been sent to it a bottle neck there will hold data being sent so higher upload if you can!

if virgin is slowing down your connection look for a option that allows you to change the port settings as they will be "throttling" the port to slow you down not the whole connection
