    Default Boot rattle!

    Hi

I've had an extremely annoying rattle coming from my bootlid for the last few weeks, and to cut a long story short its my boot thats not sitting tightly on the passenger side. I can tell because when i shut the rear passenger door, the bootlid actually lifts and then falls again.

I've tried adjusting the plastic screws inside but they don't seem to be moving I was considering 'padding' out these adjusters.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

It's not the plastic bits you need to adjust by the sounds of it, it's the catch plate, the bit the hatch lock clicks onto (little metal bar thing). You need to remove some trim and then adjust the plate slightly.

I'm sure there was a thread before that I posted in with some photos. I'll see if I can find it.

Ah, that would be the How 2 that never made it onto the forum!! I knew I had your C pics, and my Signum pics, but I never got round to doing it! One for the (long) 'To Do' list of things I have at the moment! lol

Thanks for that. I'll try having a look as well.

The reason i thought it was the adjuster was that it only seems loose at one side. The boot doesn't lift at all if i slam the drivers side passenger door. I'm sure i'll get to the bottom of it.

Anything to avoid a Saturday morning at the dealers!

I WD40'd the catch, and took her down the body shop for re-alignment,stopped immediately. Mind with so many coming out of the factory like it you get the feeling that the cars were getting down the line for boot installation around 5 each day just as the boys were looking to knock off!!!!

Also go and look at the rear of your mota now....
Look at the gap between the lid and the main body work on both sides, mine was out on the left by a mile!

If you pull out the lower part of the plastic centre boot trim, then pull up, it will unclip..that will then let you see the torx bolts that hold the striker in posn.. scribe round it to start with so you'll always have a datum to come back to if it all goes wrong....

also, make sure those 2 black screws are the same height..

Oh, and if shutting the door is lifting the boot you may have a stuck vent behind the bumper..they're there to act as pressure relief ducts for exactly that 'shutting the door' reason..

Cheers, i'll have a look round tomorrow and see what i can do.

That vent thing sounds about right - is it easy to find? Its dark at the moment so i'll try in the morning.

    Thanks

It's tucked up inside the boot, behind the boot side carpets, at floor level..it's between the wheelarch and the back of the car..easier to get at with the rear bumper off thou....

the louvres are on the outside, so access is better from behind the bumper..
