Question MOT & HIDs, Whats the score?

My MOT is due on the 3rd of June. I've got HIDs in with no self levelers or washers. Will it pass or do I have to swap for old lights for the test? I put it in for an MOT last year and it passed with HIDs in but will it pass now? Have the rules changed?

    Regards.

Well this sounds like good news, can't be bothered with swapping out for the test. Anyone else shed some more light on this?

    Regards.

I am a tester & we have been told there will be no failures for them being fitted , which is good as that means there will be a set going in my elite very soon

What about insurance? I had HID's in my BMW previously, they had no washers or levelling and a friend who is a traffic officer told me that they would invalidate my insurance as they are not street legal

"Traffic office"; "insurance". Two words from your post that answer your own question - the police aren't experts on insurance and they know little about claims etc.

Perhaps, but they do know that they are not "street legal" and if they are not "street legal" you can run into issues with insurance. He was speaking from experience following an accident he had to attend where the other driver had claimed they were blinded by the guy with the HID's.

    Worth considering.

Another one is tinting the fron windows, again this can cause insurance issues.

I informed mine (Tesco, and previously Direct Line). Noted on the policy, with no extra loading on the premium paid.

I think the issue is that any form of HID without the levelling and washers is technically not street legal, and therefore could cause issues (apparently)! It would depend who you spoke to and how it was recorded I guess.

However, if for example you killed someone (god forbid) and the police or insurance were looking at your car, it would be an issue.
