Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

1 it doesn't have rear shoes an 2 even if it did shouldn't be striping them on MOT anyway lol

As for inner track jack car up

Have someone grab wheel @ 3&6 o'clock position an wiggle while you hold on to steering rack gaiter you should feel movement of theirs any play.

Not a bad job to do. But more awkward on axle stands than a ramp/ pit

Ive done how too on them.

Id personally do vxl parts as comes as complete kit with new gaiters clips nuts etc.

Were as aftermarket literally come just tie bars. And you end up having to cable tie the old gaiters on.
I no as I did a Zafira on Friday lol

    Default

Quite common for the steering rack joints to need replacing, will last about 2K miles before they are worn and need replacing

The tester has probably picked up the text for shoes instead of pads
Quite common due to Traction Control applying the brakes independently
If it is a ABS issue, then the nearside front will be worn, compared to the offside front
You should be able to visually inspect the pads, so just replace them when worn and fully inspect all parts
