Default First RR results in for my 3.0 V6 CDTi . . . bad, good or OK?

Hi all, my Vectra C has had her first RR day today with the North West members of VVOC over at A&M Conversions just outside of Chester (North Wales).

The car is a 2006 facelift with the later Z30 engine, I think it is 184PS (or is that BHP?) as standard and just under 300ft/lb torque. The car has done 52,000 miles and has service history (non-Vauxhall I think).

The car is completely standard engine/tuning wise so I was hoping for close to standard power given the mileage. I was disappointed with 167BHP at flywheel, 128BHP at the wheels and peak torque around 325ft/lb.

Should I be disapponted with a lower BHP figure but happy with a good torque figure? I'm not sure where I go next, tune it or sell it. The car only gets used for short runs and is averaging 27.7MPG! I could get a VXR and pay less for fuel but get more smiles per gallon. What does a VXR do around town?

The two 1.9's ran about 193bhp, was one boxed and the other mapped, torque was 318 and about 340 respectively, so they have about 26bhp more than me! The black smoke they put out was bad though, mine put out nothing (that i saw).

I was running Vpower diesel but this made no difference to the feel of the car.

Any input from members with experience of the 3.0 CDTi is much appreciated.

My old 3ltr used to average 38 doing the same journey my 2.8 gets 17 on. How many tanks of vpower ? One for the run won't help.

I normally use standard Shell diesel, I put in £40 of Vpower diesel the day before the run but it doesn't feel different. I assume it needs to work it's magic then/

Short runs in a car with a DPF is a bit of a no no. Give it a good blast up the motorway to do a regen and clear the tubes a bit. See if it feels better after that.

It will usually take several cycles for your car to fully benefit from higher cetane fuel.

Putting in one tank the day before a RR will make no difference at all. Keep filling it up with V-Power diesel mate and try again in a couple of months.

I'd say it's ok considering you only drive it around town. Give it a good blast, i.e. all the way to the red zone in lower gears
