Need some urgent advice! When I bought my Vectra a couple of weeks ago there were some signes of oil spillage on top of the engine, primarily around the filler cap which I put down to a slightly careless previous oil change. The front of the engine was also a bit grimy which I also put down to a previous spillage.
I cleaned the front of the engine but after a run out today there is fresh oil sitting on silver lip where I believe the rocker cover gasket is. Also the black plastic immediately above the lip (see arrow) has a very slight flex in it when pushed - is this normal?!
Just need to know if the view is that this is likely to be the rocker cover gasket (is it common?!) or if it could be something else - even leaking from the filler cap down. It's on the same side of the engine but I only see new oil sitting on the lip at the front & it doesn't look like it's leaked down.
Is the rocker gasket a big job on these engines? My car is an '06 1.8 vvt exclusive with 31k miles on it.
I'm no expert so I'm guessing the circled bolt is one of the retaining bolts, or is this just to remove the top cover?!
I have took the car over to the dealership and left it with them to sort out, but as it's a Renault/Nissan dealer not Vx I am a bit concerned they will do it right, torque everything up correctly etc. If it isn't likely to be the gasket I would rather them leave it! Is the cover sensitive to torque on these engines?
Sorry for lots of questions but any advice would be really appreciated!
