Default Fitting a Swirl flap actuator

My 06 CDTi recently had a new manifold, at the time the old swirl flap actuator worked and so it was refitted.....
However it has now give up the ghost, and i have a new one to go on the manifold, but i dont want to take the manifold off if i can get away with it.

Can the actuator be fitted without removing the manifold? I will be removing the EGR for cleaning and i am lead to believe that will make access easier.

Also what tools will be required for the removal of the actuator (torx, hex)

    Thanks in advance

Although i haven't done this myself... i'm told it is possible to just swap the actuator from underneath... although if it was me personally, i would leave the old one in place & only connect the new one electronically IE by the connecting plug & tie wrap it somewhere safe, that way the flaps stay open & do not operate but the actuator fools the ecu to thinking all is as it should be, even the new modified manifolds are failing & IMO your better off running without it full stop.

Just to add... i looked deeply into the swirl valve system & opted to bond mine open rather than replace the manifold, I will not be replacing my manifold any time soon as it's much better without the swirl flap operation & if i did decide to change the manifold i would either opt for modifying my own or purchasing an older alfa part no without the swirl pots... hth

I completely agree with dh above. One thing I have not managed to find yet is where the electrical connector is for the swirl valve actuator (in case mine ever gives up the ghost and all I would do is buy a new actuator, and electrically connect it to fool the ECU and then would glue swirl pot 3 open)?
