Angry cd70 navi colour display problems

went out on saturday and display wasnt working, got a torch and shone it on display so display working just no backlight, phoned vauxhall today asked about a bulb only to be told it`s a sealed unit and they had one in stock did i want it £1628, said no and then got onto there head office only to be told same thing it`s a sealed unit, told them it might be sealed but it can be opened and replaced with a ccfl tube which it comes with, which they say lasts 50000 hours breaking it down , i explained my car would need to be on 24 hours a day for 5years 11 months, and my car is only 4 years old, but they are not going to budge and it`s £1628 (****** dear bulb), even thinking about taking it to the papers about how there ripping people off when it takes me 5 minutes to open unit and have the bulb in my hand. anyway anyone else had this problem and if so did they manage to source a ccfl tube for it ???????????

my display stays dark for ages and then gets brighter with temperature. Would like to know how to take it out and look at what can be replaced.

Stupid question but you havent dimmed the dash down by accident?

I doubt it as you would have noticed the dash dimmed as well, doh!

Piece of cake to take apart - you just need a few small screwdrivers and some patience...

ah but vauxhall say it is sealed unit, and you cant replace the bulb, i am going to get in touch with a company in birmingham who can make these ccfl tubes to see if the can make this one, def nothing to do with the diming of lights as you can still see display with lights off during daytime but when this bulb fails you will need a rtorch to be able to see anything
