Default Engine cover rattle and engine cough

I have an 08 Vectra Est 1.9cdti 120. The engine cover is ratteling and have been quoted £24 for the rubber grommets. Any other ideas.

Also I wa driving home the engine temp was at 90, i put it in to second and there was what i can only describe as a cough, wher the engine missed a beat and the carried on. When I got to the lights it sounded like the engine was pulsing.

    Kind Regards

I see from your profile that you have an estate car, could be it was performing a regen, did your instant consupmtion go through the roof too?

Those grommets are expensive and as far as i know can only be got from the dealers, they come with new brass ferrules too. Anybody found a work around for these yet?

I didn't notice the fuel consumption.

Would just undoing the screws at the fron of the engine cover and putting a couple of large washers do the trick for the rattle?

I've had the engine cover off my 120 for months now, as it wore away the holes so they were larger than the size of the grommets! I did have a temp repair using washers stuck to the underside of the engine cover and this worked well until I next took the cover off and lost the washers!... haven't got round to replacing yet, but at least there is no rattle!
