    the innocence of the nieve....

Super resin is a mildly abrasive combined cleaner, polish and sealent. EG is a pure synthetic sealent. Theres no wax involved.

But, there are much much better products out there that youve probably never heard of. Wolfgang make superb products for reasonable prices, so do pinnacle but are a bit pricer.

I still use autoglym, but only for the areas that no-one sees like bottoms of doors, bumpers etc.

    Hello all,

Yes Andy you're spot on there when you talk about SRP & EG, and no wax, just remember you do not have to go at it hell for leather, a constant slower action is better as it gives what fillers there is time to fill the pours (therefore filling swirls), also when I use polish etc I tend to go in straight lines as opposed to the circular motion.

As for meguiar's I found that #21 is sensational over the SRP & EG, it gives a very nice wet look, to keep it like this for months all you need do is after the weekly wash use either Quick detailer or Srpray wax applied directly to the cloth so as not to get over glass etc, only takes 20mins.

One thing #21 tends to be supplied in galon containers, if anyone is interested I know someone who supplies 320ml bottles for £14 + P&P or 260ml for £7.99 + P&P.

    Hi All

Used the Clay from Meguires this weekend. Excellent material. With having the Black Signum it is probably the best Tar, Bug and General grime remover i have used. I also have to confess that I use a combination of "Polishes" as well. For the Bonnet and front end I used the Clay system followed by a small amount of the Meguires "T Cut" style preparation. The whole front end then got two coats of the Halfords Colour polish to rid any swirls and minor scratches. Then I applied two coats of the Meguires gold wax polish with an applicator. Left each coat for 30 mins (Did the inside) and then buffed with a new cloth each time. May sound long winded but it still looked very good this morning after a 210 mile drive in the heavy rain last night. Quick jet wash and its perfect.

    Hello Richard,

The only thing I would add is that after you have jet washed, disconnect the hose from the power washer and "drape" water over the car to rinse, the idea being that the water will "sheet" off the car and it will be virtually dry, when using a power washer the water breaks up and forms beads which sit on the paintwork and if they dry can cause water spots.

Also I would not use "T Cut" as I think it's too harsh for a newish car and I wouldn't use Colour polish either, there are MUCH better products out there that will give better protection and last much longer.........that's just an opinion though

    Hi Bryan

Good tip on the washing. I either do that or, if my son has not pinched it all, put a capful of Demon Shine in a bucket and throw it over.

What do you use to get rid of the swirls then????

    Hello Richard,

There is a lot of things you can use, if applying by hand one that is readily available from halfords (but cheaper on ebay) is Meguiar's Deep Crystal 1, 2 & 3, see link: -

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Meguiars-All-3...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm not a fan of "cutting" and really don't think your pait will need much, the kit shown in the link includes a very mild paint cleaner that's DC #1, a polish DC #2 and a wax DC #3, if the car has been clayed before hand it will look spectacular.

By the way I'm no expert this is just what I've picked up.

The next time I polish the car I'll be using Meguiar's #7, #21 then #16 for the 1st time it leaves a deep dark wet look and as I have said before the way to keep it looking great is to wash once a week and apply either Quick detailer or spray wax, I use the wax but either will extend the protection and look considerably.

    Well you did ask eh!

    I now the feeling Richard.

one other thing I have already mentioned is that when using polish etc some people rub away like there's no tomorow, part of the key is to apply a lttle pressure and move slowly to give the product a chance to effect the paint surface, I also dont apply it in a circular motion but in straight lines fisrt in one direction then the other, although that said I expect my G-100 polishing machine to arrive this week and that mimmicks the circular motion of the hand.

If you want email me I'll send you couple of links mrblr123@yahoo.co.uk

Some products like a glaze require you to apply in straight lines so the product gets 'snagged' by the swirls and fills the ultrafine lines. Some products like waxes and polishes require you to apply in circular motions. Its all down to which product you use. Also, i got better results by hand than with my cyclo polisher when applying DC1 last week, so it goes to show that you should experiment with what youve got and you may get different results.

One of the best swirl maskers is actually the cheap and cheerful meguiars NXT wax. Its quite thick and does a great job of hiding swirls. Above that, your looking at specialist products like glazes, which are quite thick and oily and add a deep gloss, hide swirls and light scratches but dont offer much protection from the elements. Great for car shows, but dont use them for protection purposes. As BIr will confirm, Meguiars do offer a lot of products over the counter that will serve 99% of the population perfectly well. The Autoglym vs Meg debate will long continue and it comes down to personal choice. Meg's seem to favour the carnuba approach, wheras AG have gone the synthetic sealent approach.

If you havenet already seen it yet, have a look at this thread.
