Default +15BHP with a custom exhaust???

    Hi,

Somebody has offered to build me a custom cat-back exhaust that will result in and increase of +15BHP.

I have done some research and, whilst the person in question seems to be very well regarded, doesn't this seem a little optimistic?

I am not suggesting the person is lying (I am not qualified to suggest such a thing) but I think even he would agree that it is sensible to get other opinions.

    Cheers

Seems a bit optimistic from just a cat back system.

    It depends

What BHP are you starting off with anyway? If it's a 600BHP supercar then I'd guess a properly designed, tuned length exhaust system could well add another 15BHP without too much trouble.
Conversely it it's only starting off with 100BHP then it's probably unbelievable.

My guess is it could make 2 or 3 BHP extra. No idea if the sound levels would be legal either? But I'm certainly no expert, only a guess on my part. But sometimes it pays to be somewhat skeptical.

    cheers

The CAT is not being removed. The starting point is 138BHP (on paper). So that is > 10% increase.

    Engine is 1.8VVT btw

I obviously don't want to name names (as I have no reason to suggest that they are anything but honest) but it is a supposed exhaust specialist. The price is £250 for a stainless steel cat-back system with "tuned bafflers and no restrictions or chambers". Again, this sounds worryingly low as those Scorpion ones that are popular on here are nearly £500.

If its a single exit with a straight centre pipe it's not majorly cheap, sure my power flow single on my astra was less then 300.
