    Default My first Vectra...few questions!

Bought my first vectra last week...it's a 2005 reg 1.8 club.

The temprature gauge doesnt seem to register correctly? (not the outside air temp gauge!) It will move once I have been driving for a while but sort of hovers between 80 and 90 degr

When I test drove the car I was sure it had a display telling me how many miles were effectively left in the tank? I'm certain this was displayed on the same small screen as the symbol that would tell you if a for was open? It may have been on another car I test drove but it's not on mine now lol! should it be?

80-90 is the correct temperature for the engine, what is the temperature that you would have expected?

That sounds correct, anything above 90 is too hot, anything below 80 (once warmed) suggests a fault, and if the temperature falls below 70 once warmed also suggests a fault

What other cars did you look at / test drive?
The miles left in the tank and doors appears in the same location on some other cars, such as Ford (I had that display on my previous Mondeo)
It certainly doesn't appear on the Vectra C

I've just re read my first post abd should have been more elaborate!

I would expect it to settle at 90'... I could drive the car for half an hour odd abd it still wouldnt be at 80'... sometimes it may not even move...on a rarity at the moment I've driven more than an hour or so it would sort of settle just above 80' but does seem irregular.

It may just be me as I've had a diesel for 4 years previous...would this be any different to a petro?

It varies a little by engine - 1.8, 2.2, 2.0T etc, but if it say at 90 that would be a little high for my liking, as the fans come on at 92 to cool the water down again.

My 1.8 sits at 85 in the winter and 90 in the summer. If your finding its taking half an hour to get to 80 the thermostat needs changing. Mine starts moving off the 70 mark within 2 miles and is at 85 after 3 miles, even in the winter. Thermostat is an easy change, I did a how2 for the 1.8.

My 1.8 (albeit it the VVT) used to sit at around 85 - my 2.0t seems to be about the same
