Default My Speaker upgrade: Vibe Blackair 6's all round.

Just thought I'd share my journey to replace the standard speakers all round, along with some tips here and there possibly! Right, first thing I bought was two pairs of blackair 6 v2 components, after much debating about what to get. I also bought the blackair V12 active sub, yes ok they're the best part of 200 quid (depending where you look!), but I powered it up, and wow! I was gobsmacked! It kicks something silly!! Well worth the money. Also look how nicely the remote sits in the oddments tray (with rubber mat removed), it just pushes in perfectly!

Anyway, back to the door speakers. First thing I noticed on removing a front door card, was something that possibly not many people would see. I mean when you fit a door speaker you're more than likely going to do it with the door open right? Also you're not likely to shut the door with no card in due to being a pain to open from the inside! Well, I did, mainly because I haven't had time to finish this all in one go. Well, shut the door, and you'll see this:

Now that shocked me, and I quickly offered up the speaker (I've made my own MDF rings), and the magnet JUST misses that door check bar! What's more worrying is I bet some people have just fitted their speakers, closed the door and thought nothing of it! Chances are it'll be ok, but you never know!

I have fitted the same speakers all round to mine to, and when doing the fronts i noticed the samething and that was one of the reasons why i moved the location of the speaker.

Yes I did have a good read of your thread, nice work! I had a similar boot install in my vec B, which I'm selling now. I do like the way you glassed them in. I was thinking about it but I went for a stealth install instead. Only problem I'm facing is there's nowhere to put the x'overs, every inch of that door is hugged by the door card! Except for where the black foam is, but that part of the door is a gaping hole so can't mount there!

You can fix them to the inside of the door skin with selftappers or simlar. I think Ian Highlander has done it this way have a look through his ice thread.

    Default Tweeters

To fit the tweeters in the factory location involved a little bit of modification, as you can see below the fronts were easier, all i did was snipped the tops off the 3 clips that held the OEM tweeter in, and sat the new one on it with some silicone adhesive, and gently clamped it overnight. Then the foam piece sat over the top quite nicely. The rear was a bit trickier, requiring about an inch or so either side of the tweeter's outer casing to be cut off. The tweeter can then be dropped snugly into its location (after snipping tops off the lugs again) with a little adhesive on the lugs and at the sides, and left to set.
