Question Upper control arms need doing again.. only lasted a year

I guess the ebay control arms i bought last year were not a very good quality make as it seems the bushes are worn already.. These were only fitted in July last year..

So who sells good quality control arms that will last and take the punishment of a fast car on a lowered suspension on the crappy roads full of botched roadworks? How much are they from the stealers and are the OE arms any better than factory? Are there any uprated arms available?

    Links and tips greatly appreciated...

None of the arms last particularly long - that's why there are so many threads about them, because even the factory ones wear out quite quickly - I think the suspension design means they take too much of a hammering. The Vauxhall ones are about £80 each IIRC, which is a lot given that there's nothing great about them. There are also no uprated ones available, unlike for example, droplinks. The only upgrade I can think of is to use Powerflex bushes, but they are very expensive (over £200 for a set) and that's without the arms themselves. I did a poll last month and most people who voted said it was just the outer bush that wears, so with that info I decided to change just the outer bushes whilst leaving the arms in place - and the outer bushes were indeed worn. This has the advantage of being much less of a hassle to do than fiddling with the inner nut/bolt - which as you know is hard to access - and so if the new bushes don't last years and years, it's not a problem, I'll just do them again.

its the outer bushes that are worn again. I thought it may be case of changing the blasted things again, however if just changing the bushes can be done while the arm remains on the car then I am up for that.. Did you do a write up on whats required and how to change them?

I'm three-quarters of the way through writing a proper How2, which I might get finished this w/e, but in the meantime this gives you a good idea of how I did it:

Personally I would either get genuine or lemforder from ECP
as they close to oem ones in the end of the day u get what u pay for ...
same goes for front lower wishbones....

Mine were from ECP - lasted just two years. Anyway, here's the completed text/pics for the How2:

funny you should say that.. i am thinking about replacing my outer bushes with Powerflex as well.. The thing is I just can't figure out which ones they are as they call the arms different names.. I do not want to be replacing these very year or so, i will pay extra and change them for the last time...

Have a look at this page and click on the 'car diagram' then see if you can figure which bushes we need, this is the signum page (same chassis as vectra estate). I think is number 14 but am not 100% sure..

Im sure Spenny changed his with VX bushes but cant find the thread. Standard suspension, I think VX ones are good for about 40k.
